Lullaby
While you were dying, waiting to go home
You would hum a lullaby, created on your own.
I would sit and listen, it was comforting to me
Tears I shed were many, as you fell asleep.
Sing to me that lullaby, sing to me that song
Just as you did before, when I was born.
I need to hear the words, just one last time
Before you leave me Mom, forever mine.
I can see you in the chair, rocking away
All the little angels there, all the little babes.
Cradled in your loving arms, that once held me tight
Humming that same tune to them, my treasured lullaby.
Wrapped in clouds of warmth, light pink and blue
Cherubs on wings of doves, reaching out for you.
Calming their fears away, soothing is your voice
The cancer took you then, you had no choice.
Sing to them, our lullaby, sing to them, our song
Just as you did before, when we were born.
It's too late to hear the words, you've gone away
HE is now holding you, and in HIS arms you'll stay.
