Metamorphosis
I sit here all alone, waiting for my turn
Skin bright red, radiation laser does burn.
Stocking cap on my head, to keep me warm
Loss of my hair, chemo treatments are strong.
I am too sick to eat, can't keep any food down
Cancer Center everyday, cure for what's wrong.
Reflection in the mirror, loss of my breasts
Tears fill my eyes, as I look a frightful mess.
I think of butterflies, laying dormant in cocoons
Once furry caterpillars, metamorphosis evolving soon.
They struggle, they fight, breaking free from the nest
Emerging, bright colors, spreading wings at their best.
I want to be like the butterfly, free from my pain
Fly away anytime, no more intravenous in my vein.
I am more beautiful, look beyond what you see
Treat me with respect, let me keep some dignity.
Me and the butterfly, human bondage are we
No difference between us, as far as I can see.
I live with the cancer, butterfly has pesticides
We both want to live, from the poisons inside.
The next time you see, butterflies passing by
Just think of the way we live, our need to survive.
Some have a short life span, some will surely die
Until that time comes, we will live, we will fly.
Dedicated To All Cancer Patients
Fighting To Be.... Butterflies.
