Never Forget Us
PFC. LORI PIESTEWA
My Country called on me, proud to serve
Left the Hopi Tribe, to join the reserves.
I knew it was my duty, it was up to me
To save another Country, in turmoil, misery.
Never gave it much thought, about my own life
Freedom for my children, cause for me to fight.
My ancestors, Azteca-Mexican, blood in my veins
Parents taught me well, not to run, carry no shame.
We had a tight unit, sisters, brothers, we became
Loved them like my own, they treated me the same.
Respect is earned, worked harder just to show
Women can do the job, taking orders as we're told.
Ambushed, held captive, listed as POW-MIA
Prayed to my Spirit, that we'd be free someday.
Remembering friend Jessica, things that were done
Just at that moment, they were firing their guns.
I counted my unit, Spirit world we all arrived
Didn't have full count, Pfc. Jessica Lynch survived.
Angelical wings wrapped around her, that she might live
To my parents, my children, I blow them a Spiritual kiss.
May the pain of my family, be lessen through the years
Hope for my children, as they shed so many tears.
Never forget us, and those from long before
We gave it our all, and what we're fighting for.
