Spread Your Wings
I am a birth-mother, searching for years
Son, named Robert, wished you'd appear.
My heart is aching, to hold you one time
Forgive me, my son, this child of mine.
I prayed each day, to never give up
You mean the world, I long for your touch.
In my heart, I hold you, ever so dear
Each day, I cry, tears of painful despair.
Unexpectedly, one day, news came to me
Heart wrenching, Oh! God, can this truly be?
Tell me lies, make up stories, anything but this
Nightmare forever, destroyed my happiness.
So many questions, no answers for me
Alone to deal with death, ending tragically.
Too young, my handsome, singer of many plays
Talent short lived, why did it happen this way?
I am a birthmother, with emptiness inside
Giving it to God, He will now be my guide.
Help me to hear the songs, only my angel can sing
You are my brightest star, Robert, go spread your wings.
Dedicated to Amy in honor of her beloved son, Robert.
